It’s the buzz word that everyone is using during CoVid- 19.

Why?  What is so important about resiliency?

From the teachings and research done by The HeartMath Institute it has been redefined as not only the ability to bounce back from adverse situations or events, but also the ability to prepare for these events.  Having a lot of resilience gives you a strong immune system, better emotional control, and a better ability to make good decisions.

How a lack of it can show up:

  1. Short fuse
  2. Hyper vigilance
  3. Emotional outbursts
  4. Feeling a sense of victimization
  5. Impatience
  6. Feeling the world is against you
  7. Poor sleep quality
  8. Feeling fragile
  9. Wanting to isolate yourself from the outside world.

Why do we Loose Resilience?

Think of your being resilient as your own bucket of energy. Each day we wake up with a limited amount of energy in that bucket. Now sleep is the best way to build and fill your bucket, but if we’re not getting proper sleep, our buckets aren’t strong.
During the day, we have events that can empty that bucket, or some things can puncture holes in the sides and our energy just drains out and we don’t even realize it. (negative self-talk or draining emotions, like worry, usually do this).  Then at the end of our day, if we’ve done nothing to fill our buckets or patch the holes, we are tired, exhausted and impatient. Family life suffers, our sleep suffers, the next day suffers. It’s a vicious trip down the rabbit hole.

Why do we want to build it?

  • When we are resilient we have more patience with ourselves and others, we have a better outlook on life and don’t take things so personally.
  • Resiliency helps our bodies to heal faster and not wear down our system. A nonresilient body burns more depleting hormones, so we actually age faster. Think pictures of Presidents before and after their time in office.
  • Our immune systems are diminished when we are stressed and don’t have our resilience bucket shored up.
